Over the last few months, we’ve been working tirelessly to create an app that truly addresses the challenges of real-time online privacy and protection.
We wanted to develop something that not only secures your phone from threats but also prioritises your privacy without compromising on speed or ease of use. After extensive research, development, testing, and experimentation, we were incredibly proud to introduce the latest version of Malloc.
This update, first expected to reach global users in September 2024, included fundamental changes in the app’s functionality and design, with the most significant improvements centred on how we protect your privacy and secure your device from online threats. Here’s what was in it.
A fresh, new design
We listened to your feedback, and we presented a new, simplified User Interface (UI). Malloc now features a single main screen where you can easily activate the app and view everything it detects and blocks on your phone. The updated UI is designed to be intuitive, dynamic, and responsive, allowing you to enable protection features effortlessly while giving you a comprehensive overview of how Malloc is safeguarding you every day.
On-device online activity protection
With this update, Malloc operates entirely on your device for both iOS and Android versions. We achieved local monitoring and blocking of online threats (including spyware, ads and trackers and unsecured traffic) by creating an on-device VPN. This means your data stays on your device, and — unlike remote VPNs that may collect your data — Malloc does not collect or transmit your traffic. Beyond improving privacy, this on-device operation also made protection faster and more efficient than before, with fewer delays in loading pages.
Enhanced spyware detection
We significantly improved Malloc’s ability to detect spyware. By analysing various indicators — such as app behaviour, permissions, files created, and network activity — and leveraging research on the latest spyware attacks, Malloc’s detection capabilities were greatly enhanced. Over the following months, these capabilities were set to continue improving as on-device AI models began to detect and signal unexpected behaviour more effectively.
Improved app data sharing monitoring and blocking
We made substantial enhancements to Malloc’s ability to monitor and control data sharing by apps on your device. With this update, Malloc can provide detailed insights into the data flow of every app, showing exactly which domains your apps are communicating with and whether they are sharing data with trackers or transmitting data unencrypted. You now have greater control over your privacy: you can see if an app is engaging in risky data practices and choose to block specific apps or system processes from sending any data. This allows you to proactively manage your device’s security and privacy settings with greater precision.
You can see how that monitoring fits into the wider product on the mobile security platform page, and read how an app-facing version of the technology works on our security SDK page.
