Predator spyware continues to spread in Europe and particularly in Greece, affecting prominent figures, politicians and journalists. At Malloc, we prioritize your safety and security. As part of our commitment to protecting you from cyber threats, we have taken immediate action to update our services based on the latest insights from the investigations into Predatorgate.

According to the inside story on July 28th, 2023, the Data Protection Authority’s investigation into Predatorgate revealed that among the 92 people who received infected SMS, there were acting ministers, top political figures, at least one metropolitan, and the director of Kathimerini newspaper.

PredatorSpyware such as Intellexa’s Predator and NSO’s Pegasus gain complete access to your device, including all your messages, emails, calls, and location.

The discovered affected devices received SMS and messages on other messaging apps containing links that, upon clicking, directed the users to malware-infested websites, immediately initiating the download of malicious software (known as spyware) onto their devices.

According to the latest investigation, the SMSs prompted users to visit the following websites in order to maliciously infect devices of prominent figures in Greece and Europe. Here are some of the domains included in the signals identified by the investigation.

Based on our investigation, none of these websites use secured protocols or take any measure to protect your data in transit — indicators that verify their suspicious nature.

At Malloc, your safety and security are our top priorities. As a testament to our commitment to safeguarding you from cyber threats, we have promptly taken action to enhance our services, incorporating the most up-to-date findings from the Predatorgate investigations.

We employ a robust approach to keep you safe from spyware and other malicious threats. Our system blocks access to websites (the domains of those websites) known to distribute spyware, ensuring that even if you inadvertently visit them, no spyware will be downloaded on your phone. Our dedication to your safety is supported by an expanding knowledge base that continuously learns from trusted sources, including Amnesty International, and utilises advanced machine learning algorithms also using GPT.

To ensure you stay protected, we recommend connecting to a Malloc server and enabling the “Block Spyware” option on your data shield. When connected, our system will automatically block all known malicious links, providing you with a safe and private online experience.

When you visit any spyware related website, Malloc will block any communication with it to protect you. It will notify you and update your Privacy & Security Monitoring Report. Below, you can see how the app detects as spyware one of the websites, blocks it and demonstrates it as blocked spyware in the Connection Report and Privacy monitoring.
