An ever-growing number of data leakage/breaching incidents have been reported over the past few years. Many factors contribute to this phenomenon ranging from poor programming practices to intended but unjustified collection of data and their utilisation for marketing or other relevant purposes. Moreover, the interconnectivity of consumer devices, with mobile phones being prime devices, through various communication protocols and standards in combination with the rise in cyberthreats and cybercrime incidents increase further the potentials of data leakages. As a result, significant and rightful concerns with respect to data privacy risks have been raised across all socioeconomical and technological domains. The impact on the quality of life of users is significant even for people with average use of basic technological evolutions. The modern lifestyle requires the utilisation of technology-based solutions for the bettering our quality of life. Examples of such solutions are smartphones, smartwatches, personal computers, automobiles, IoT devices and other that implement smart recommendation and prediction algorithms. Through this process the user is not necessarily aware of the type and breath of data being recorded and handled by these technologies.
Having recognised the significance and volume of sensitive data stored and manipulated by a smartphone, the Malloc proposal aids the development of a software solution for the safeguarding of mobile devices against unauthorised or unattended data recordings/ transmissions. Malloc is a highly innovative solution that combines state-of-the-art cyber security principles with intelligent machine learning algorithms to detect such unattended attempts in real-time. Malloc will be established as a new dynamic start-up company, with its purpose to develop and commercialise a technology solution that enables end users to have full control over their data and their dissemination The impact of Malloc will be further reinforced by accomplishing the following objectives:
- Undertake a market analysis, needs assessment and competition analysis;
- Develop a feasibility study and business plan;
- Develop, validate and test MVP to the beachfirst market; and
- Engage with stakeholders through dissemination activities and attract investors by networking and pitching competitions.
